Qualcomm has created a new high-end processor. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip offers flagship features, but its performance is slightly lower than that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It is expected to enable the creation of more affordable versions of flagship smartphones.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor is based on a 4nm manufacturing process. It has a 1+4+3 core configuration:

  • 1 Prime ARM Cortex X4 core clocked at 3.0 GHz;
  • 4 performance cores Cortex-A720 clocked at 2.8 GHz;
  • 3 power-efficient cores Cortex-A520 clocked at 2.0 GHz.

By comparison, the standard version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has a 1+5+2 configuration (more performance cores) and higher frequencies for all core blocks.

Another difference is the use of the previous generation X70 5G modem. Additionally, the new processor is slightly limited in memory bandwidth. However, it supports Wi-Fi 7, hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and has a Hexagon NPU. The device can run large language models with up to 10 billion parameters, meaning it will support models like Gemini Nano, along with AI assistants. However, it lacks some AI features found in the 8 Gen 3 chip.

With the launch of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, Qualcomm is adding another subcategory to its lineup. Check out the differences between the new processor and the flagship processor in the table below.

It is expected that the new processor will appear in Honor, iQOO, Realme, Redmi, and Xiaomi smartphones, the announcement of which will take place later this month. According to rumors, the Redmi Note 13 Turbo and Poco F6 will be among the first smartphones to feature the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.
