Porsche announced a high-performance version of its electric sedan, named Taycan Turbo GT, a week ago. This is the most powerful Taycan with a peak power of 1092 hp (815 kW) and a reduced curb weight by 72 kg. It has now set a record at the California Laguna Seca track.

In January, the camouflaged Taycan Turbo GT completed the 20.8 km Nürburgring Nordschleife track in 7:05.55, which is 18 seconds faster than the best time of Tesla with its Model S Plaid (and 26 seconds faster than the Taycan Turbo S, which was previously the fastest option).

The Taycan Turbo GT completed the 3.6 km Laguna Seca track in 1:27.87, setting a record for production electric vehicles on this track, reported by ArsTechnica.

The power output is 777 hp (580 kW) in normal mode, but it can be increased to 1092 hp for 10 seconds. The Porsche program for Formula E racing has had a certain influence here: during movement, you can activate the "attack mode," which increases power by an additional 160 hp (120 kW) for 10-second intervals. It can be toggled on or off using a paddle on the steering wheel for convenience on the track.

Among the changes under the body is a new rear-wheel drive, common for facelifted Taycan models. But for the Turbo GT, a new silicon carbide pulse inverter was installed, capable of operating at voltages up to 900 V, instead of the 600 V inverter in the Taycan Turbo S. The two-speed transmission was also upgraded to handle the Turbo GT's peak torque of 1340 Nm.

To reduce weight, one should choose the Turbo GT with the Weissach package, named after the Porsche research facility near Stuttgart, Germany. This utilizes carbon fiber to replace heavier trim elements, thinner glass, a lighter audio system, as well as the omission of automatic closing of the rear trunk, one of the two charging ports, and even rear speakers to save the aforementioned 72 kg.

The Weissach package also reduces the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h from 2.2 seconds to 2.1 seconds and allows reaching a top speed of 306 km/h instead of 290 km/h.

The price of the 2025 Taycan Turbo GT will start from $230,000 when it hits the showrooms this summer.
