Microsoft has simplified the update of certain computers to Windows 11. In the latest Windows 11 update, the company has fixed an error that prevented computers with certain 11th generation Intel Rocket Lake processors from successfully running Windows 11. This error was discovered back in 2021, so the fix had to be waited for approximately 2 years. But now owners of relevant systems with Windows 10 will be able to upgrade to Windows 11.

The problem arose due to drivers for the Intel Smart Sound (Intel SST) technology on some Intel Rocket Lake processors, which caused crashes and the appearance of a blue screen in Windows 11. The Audio Controller drivers for Intel Smart Sound Technology (the name may vary slightly on some computers) versions 10.29.0.5152 and 10.30.0.5152 were identified as having a bug.

To fix this blue screen-causing error, Microsoft pushed Intel to release updated driver versions. Any version of the Intel SST driver with numbers 10.29.00.5714 or 10.30.00.5714 and later should work smoothly. However, pay attention to the last four digits: the 10.30.x drivers are not necessarily newer than the 10.29.x drivers.

Interestingly, the fixed drivers have been available for about two years, but users had to search for them on the Intel website. Microsoft inexplicably blocked them until last week. And only now the updated drivers are available through Windows Update, and the issue on the support page is now marked as "Resolved".

After updating the drivers using the Windows Update Center or the official Intel website, users will be able to upgrade their system to Windows 11 within 48 hours. However, if the computer cannot be updated to Windows 11 within two days or the necessary drivers cannot be found in the Windows Update Center, Microsoft recommends that users contact the manufacturer of their device for assistance.
