GTA VI publisher Take-Two is shutting down two game studios, Roll7 and Intercept Games (parts of Private Division)

In the past month, Take-Two announced the dismissal of 5% of the staff, or about 600 employees.

As Bloomberg reports, as part of restructuring and cost cutting, Take-Two will close two subsidiary companies: London-based Roll7 (developer of the action shooter Rollerdrome and the skateboarding platformer OlliOlli) and Intercept Games in Seattle (developer of the space simulator Kerbal Space Program 2), where all 70 employees will be laid off.

Both offices were part of Private Division - a Take-Two label founded in 2017 to publish small and medium-sized games. Company Vice President of Communications Alan Lewis stated that no additional details regarding the layoffs announced in April would be provided, but clarified that support for Kerbal Space Program 2 would continue (the game is still in early access on Steam).

Last month, Take-Two announced it would lay off 5% of its staff (about 600 employees) and cancelled several unannounced games. Interestingly, two months prior, company CEO Strauss Zelnick assured that there were no plans to lay off people.

Take-Two is the publisher of such popular game series as GTA, Red Dead Redemption, Mafia, BioShock, XCOM, and Civilization. Last year, the company earned $5.3 billion in revenue.

According to some estimates, in 2024, the video game industry saw 9,400 people laid off, and in 2023 - 10,500 employees. Sony, Microsoft, and Riot Games only this year laid off a total of 3,300 employees, and the consequences of the financial implosion of Embracer Group continue to spread (numerous closed studios and over 1,400 laid-off employees).
