The company Dbrand cancels plans to fix issues with its Ghost Case cover. It turned out that it scratches very easily, and last November the company promised to provide a free replacement with scratch-resistant coating. But now Dbrand informs customers via email that they will have to wait. According to the company, most of their production batch turned out to be "unfit for shipping", so instead of unsatisfactory quality cases, the company will be sending out reworked Ghost 2.0 cases this summer.
The company specifies that their initial tests of recoated cases looked good. But when they tried to mass-produce them, the coating became sticky around the edges.
The company states that it has "spent a lot" on acquiring new production equipment to create the Ghost 2.0 case. Dbrand has been working on it since last year, when they initially announced the replacement program. The company also acknowledges that the scratch-resistant coating they were working on was just a "bandage" since scratches are an "inevitable fundamental issue with plastic", and cases using such coating eventually got scratched too.
Dbrand's CEO, Adam Idiaz, revealed that although the company has stopped "active development and production of Ghost 1.0", they still have stock. He added that the company intends to "offer the updated product to all Ghost customers, regardless of how satisfied they are with the product." Currently, cases for iPhone, Pixel, and Galaxy phones are available. But the disclaimer on each version's page states that buyers will receive the 2.0 case for free "later this year."
