Apple is likely to forego releasing a Mac mini version with the M3 chip in favor of a more significant update, which will receive the M4 chips and will be released by the end of the year. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reported this.

He explained that he does not expect Apple to update the Mac mini with M3 chips. The last time Apple updated the Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro chips was in January 2023. Among other new features are two additional Thunderbolt 4 ports and an HDMI 2.1 port for M2 Pro configurations, support for Wi-Fi 6E with a compatible router, and Bluetooth 5.3.

Earlier, Gurman stated that Apple plans to release new Mac mini models with M4 and M4 Pro chips "from the end of 2024 to the beginning of 2025." Now he specified that considering the new Mac mini will arrive at the end of the year, there is not enough "room to release M3 models by that time, so it can be confidently said that these Mac computers will skip the M3 generation."

This move would not be anything new for Apple, as the company completely ditched the M2 chip for the iMac, delaying the update for a bigger performance boost with the M3 chip at the end of last year. Thanks to the M4 chip series, the new Mac mini should receive a significant CPU performance boost compared to existing models based on the M2. Also, rumors suggest that the M4 chips have a faster neural engine for artificial intelligence tasks.
