It is expected that on May 21, Microsoft will introduce a new comprehensive artificial intelligence-based feature called AI Explorer. This is expected to be a truly useful and revolutionary capability for modern computing.

It is assumed that AI Explorer in Windows 11 will record and analyze everything you do on your computer, including actions in programs, email actions, documents, meetings, movies, and so on. Prior to the official announcement, new leaks regarding AI Explorer are appearing. This time, functions like snapshots and recall are mentioned.

For example, if you were working on documents about your company's quarterly reports, but do not remember where they are, you can call AI Explorer and ask the AI "show me the documents about quarterly reports viewed last week," and AI Explorer will find them. This will be possible because AI Explorer records everything you do on your PC. It makes your activity searchable, creating a snapshot of the moment. At the same time, the recall function should allow you to go back in time and review that moment again. It is assumed that users will be able to restore a snapshot using the switcher in the Windows 11 Control Center.

User X with the nickname Albacore also discovered mentions of features like Snapshot, Screen Understanding, and Discovery. Screen Understanding may mean that AI Explorer in Windows 11 records your screen, and Snapshot allows you to go back in time and remember a moment on your PC. On the other hand, Discovery may work with suggestions like "remove background from image" that may appear when editing photos.

AI Explorer will offer various usage options. It can be used in your daily tasks, for example, in a spreadsheet. To do this, you need to enter "find the spreadsheet that Jack shared with me earlier this month," and AI will find it. Discussed a new project with a colleague but can't remember the details? You can enter "find conversations about the new project," and AI Explorer will open those chats and the time they were held.

AI Explorer uses the NPU block and does not store your data in the cloud. It is based on Microsoft's small and large language models, allowing for search queries in ordinary language.

It is expected that to use AI Explorer, you will need not only the latest version of Windows 11 but also to update your computer to at least a device with a Snapdragon X processor.

System requirements for AI Explorer:

  • Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus.
  • 16 GB of RAM.
  • 256 GB SSD.
  • NPU
  • Windows 11 24H2

Therefore, AI Explorer will work exclusively on ARM architecture systems, and computers with Intel and AMD processors are left out. Preliminary tests indicate that Snapdragon X Elite systems easily outperform computers with Intel and AMD chips in AI task processing capabilities and overall peak performance.
